Miro Overview

The online collaborative whiteboard platform, Miro, is perfect for teams who need to collaborate anytime, anywhere. The best part is that upon opening this site, you can get straight to it. Visitors are cordially welcomed by a ready to use open paint type canvas with all the required functionality. You can add content, upload media, create featured material or just draw/sketch from scratch.

Appeal to audiences with marketing worthy flow diagrams, present a business case in the form of storytelling or just teach with basic easy to follow steps. Being a developer paradise, zoom & highlight coding to organise workflows within an understandable framework. Discuss your architecture with collaborative features & then receive alerts when there are updates. Save easily via the cloud & comment easily by annotating your masterpiece. Attach items & use mockups for added measure.

Use this as an extension of videoconferencing presentations & invite infinite participants to watch as well as observe. Integrate easily with other platforms with one simple link for this purpose. Explain concepts easily with the various formatting & design outlay tools. Export your creation in various formats & easily accessible for future use. Their mobile optimisation enables universal device agnostic viewing for an ultimate learning experience. Track student progress, set tasks & connect with them using interactive real-time methods.

Ironically, Miro appears to be a victim of its own success with its overzealous detailed features. For instance, formatting tools can be fiddly to use & unfortunately, their customer support isn’t great. You may be better off checking other whiteboard apps prior to arriving at any decision. Then again, Miro does really have some useful functionality, especially for teaching & coding.

Mind mapping suddenly just got better with Miro. Introducing an innovative & interactive method to build workflows, diagrammatic representations of your ideas & live brainstorming. Collate, categorise & order your ideas into a unified platform & seek inputs from other team members for effective collaboration. Plan projects to manage, draw out infrastructural details, mark up blueprints, chart & produce sales cum marketing protocol. Be it a storyline, agile planning, design iteration, utilise the virtual whiteboard for vast visual interface support. Add comments, build a canvas, discuss via videoconferencing or chats, presentations, export in high fidelity & apply various themes.

Additionally, auto-arrange, create links, use keyboard shortcuts to save time, embed your maps on external sites, preset configured templates & hotkeys to improve efficiency. Publish, share & distribute content securely, design material with various styles & use integrations for your frames. Implement images & files whilst digitising any notes you make. Use this to teach or draw out affinity or customer journey maps & Kanban boards. Cluster references, tag members & track retrospective progress visibly with ease as well as flexibility. Their API developer program enables data syncing, SDK & move plus customise widgets for that extra element of personalisation.

Miro’s concept is simple & the process is even easier:

1. Click or tap on board to create a node to start a concept
2. Add branches that extend from this central idea & create child nodes by adding them
3. Colour themes segment ideas & the easy drag & drop mechanism mobilises objects

There are issues with Miro though, including:

  • Complex interface functionality with limited featured options in case of reversing actions
  • Less automation & more manual intervention is required when duplicating work
  • Lack of ergonomics makes it difficult to identify how multiple projects are coming along

Apart from these niggles, Miro remains a great platform to manage & plan your projects with many salient features.
